USS Halloween hOrrors!

It was better than the night safari Halloween night that we went previously.
Themes, ghouls, really good makeup but the visitors outnumbered the ghouls 6251819 to 1.
The queues were super duper long and worst - the insanitarium (home to the criminally insane) which is one of the haunted attractions was down after we queued for close to an hour!
We did go to a few other attractions - Bizzare Bazaar (some Egyptian theme), Total Lockdown (Radioactive poisoning - which i am scared of due to the zombies), Death Alley (Chinatown massacre) and House of Dolls (different types of puppets). It was really like walking into a different stage that was set up according to its theme.
Managed to take some rides as well- transformers, battlestar human (took us close to 40 min) and enchanted airways (mini roller coaster). The night view on the battlestar was really pretty too (yes, my eyes were wide open and I was actually sight seeing on the ride)!
We left at midnight as we were too tired from the queuing and all the wait time at the attractions.
Hmm, if I go again, I will pay for the express to cut all the damned queue!!
It must be a conspiracy!!!

That night, Mr Look barely recovered from stomach flu and I got it the next morning.
Michelle's tummy wasn't too well either.
What a Halloween!

Kino Bugis 20%.

Kinokuniya Bugis outlet had 20% discount till yesterday and I happened to be at Bugis after my follow up checkup with my obstetrician.
Instead of buying my magazines, I decided to get Kylie some books.
It's been a while since I last bought some books for her.

A lift-the-flap 'Elmo Goes to School' book and a touchy-feely 'This Little Angel' book.
When she saw the Kino bag, she already said 'book' and knew that there were books inside.

Home.

Thanks for all the well wishes.
I've been home since the surgery last Monday.
I went for a Polyp curettage procedure at the hospital as I had abnormal bleeding after my menstrual cycle
What's a polyp?
A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane.
The above is the polyp in me that was removed.
This is probably magnified many times - the removed polyp was about 1 cm in diameter.
This was a minor surgery so it wasn't that bad.
While recuperating, Kylie was down with stomach flu which she caught from the younger one at home.
Thereafter, my in-laws, hubby and myself came down with it.
That was even more horrible than the surgery as I've got a super cranky daughter on hand and a super bad stomach cramp.
All's good now.

Photo of the Week!

Once again, it's Kylie.
This was taken some time back.
My girl has grown up so much and going into the toddler stage of her childhood.

Walking down the walkway in Raffles Hospital at 6am brought back memories of my C-section for Kylie's delivery.
This round it's for a different reason.
I was feeling weird when there was fresh blood dripping out after my menses some months back when I was on business trip to Shanghai.
The following month, I had pre-pregnancy syndromes of cramps, spotting, nausea after missing my menses for 3 days.
False alarm at KKH after doing a pregnancy test but no further conclusion from them.
I decided to visit my obstetrician back at Raffles for a more detailed check.
There was a polyp in my uterus.
Tried using hormones to 'flush' out the polyp but failed.
Thus, this time round, I'm checking into Raffles for a surgery to remove the polyp.
Like I say, the feeling is different from the last time I checked in here.
I'm positive this will be over fairly quickly and I'll be fine.
That's possibly as far as the similarities run in these 2 check-ins at Raffles Hospital.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Summer Must-haves

Another installment of Yumeko's photo challenge.
Summer Must-haves.
Thing is we do not really have summer here in Singapore.
It's relatively warm on a daily basis.
So, I'll cover what I use regularly to keep the makeup on.

1. Base Makeup – [sunscreen, powder, foundation, bbcream, whatever you use in the heat/humidity of summer]

I try to keep the base as simple as possible choosing my base with SPF.
I've been using CoverGirl's smoothers tinted moisturiser with SPF15 (not featured in the photo) for the longest time.
Retails on drugstore.com for about USD 8.
Really light and easy absorption, doesn't feel greasy.
Downside is that the coverage isn't that fantastic.
On top of that I'll use CoverGirl professional loose powder to dust over for a clean finish.
This retails on drugstore.com for USD5.50.
These 2 items are for daily use and it's relatively light on the skin.

Recently, I discovered something closer to home - Maybelline's BB cream which offers good coverage, has SPF and also lightweight.
This is my go-to for work and not too chunky makeup.
This retails for less than SGD20 if my memory serves me right.
I usually buy it at Watsons when there's a 20% discount.
Although, it's a small tube a 5cent dollop is more than enough for the entire face.
Concealer plus loose powder and my base makeup is done.

2. Point Makeup [blush, eyeshadow, whatever you use in the heat/humidity of summer]

For my eyes, I always use liquid eyeshadow as base before powder.
This makes it stay longer.
As I have oily lids, I tend to brush some powder over before using any products on my eyes as well.

Other than eye makeup, blushers are my must-haves and that about concludes my point makeup.
I use only lip balms and on rare occasions glosses.

3. Sunglasses/Hat/Anything you are wearing to block out the sun’s harmful rays

Ray Ban bought and shared with my hubby.

4. Deodorant/Body Spray/Perfume [whatever you are using to make yourself smell good]

I don't really have 1 deo that I stick to but usually it's Nivea.
As for perfumes, I rarely use them after giving birth to Kylie.
Still have a few brand new Jill Stuart perfumes sitting in my cupboard.

5. Other must-haves for Summer

Has to be rubber bands and all sorts of clips to tie my hair up!

Light weight base makeup.
Esprique is more creamy/thicker and I prefer to use it overseas or at night.
Jill Stuart is liquid and I love it.
This is probably my 5th or 6th bottle.
It's easy to put on and dries without clogging my pores.
Very smooth surface to put on any base foundation.
Kylie loves shaking it as there's a ball inside to break up and mix the liquid.

Foodstuff for the family.

2013 Schedule.

Well, it's near the end of 2012 and usually around this time I will purchase my schedule book for the next year.
Rilakkuma has served me well the past year but this year I decided to get a smaller one to reduce the weight of my bag.
Time to move my stuff over to Sentimenal Circus!
Got this from the bookstore - NBC for S$13.50.
You can also find similar schedule books at Kino NAC outlet.

Photo of the week!

My little darling topping the chart with her bruise on her face.
Apparently, another May baby had the same bruise on the same side of the same face as Kylie at the same time!

Amsterdam biscuits!

On my trips to Amsterdam, I usually buy different types of biscuits home to try.
They do make really good biscuits there.
Most of them were introduced by my Dutch colleague, Irene.

Bastogne is a cinnamon flavored biscuit, Cafe Noir is a biscuit with coffee-flavored sugared topping, the other 2 are different types of butter cookies.

This Irene told us was only available during Christmas.
I've not tried it yet but it looks really hard.

Amsterdam.

Was in Amsterdam for the last 10 days for work.
Enjoyed the alone time but missed my 2 Looks dearly.
Some photos of the trip.
Arrived at 7am in the morning so we took the airport-hotel shuttle to check-in and drop off my luggage.

Welcome to Amsterdam - the land of cyclists!!

View from the Hotel Allure guest room on the 3rd floor.
Hotel Allure's location is not too bad - near Albert Cyup and a metro/tram stations.
Only thing is you either need to walk or take the tram to places.

 Clean and spacious rooms.
No free wifi or LAN though.
There was an uninvited visitor on the first night - a mosquito!
It was stupid enough to buzz around my ear and I smacked the nightlights out of it!
The only other thing about the hotel is the killer steps up to the reception!
These stairs are not meant for heavy luggage - be warned!

 The street outside the hotel.

Lunch on the first day at Burger Bar!
Near the office and a must visit!
The rest of the week was spent indoors as I was on training.

The park behind my tram change stop.
Really nice at night with the lights.

The other side of the stop.

The street leading to the office.

 Views from the training room.
On Saturday, I had a colleague accompany me to some touristy sights in Amsterdam.
First stop, a place I had wanted to visit last December - Anne Frank House.
This was within walking distance from Dam Square.

Being here and remembering the words in Anne Frank's Diary, it was pretty surreal to me.
Never one day did I thought I will be able to visit the place she hid in during WWII.
Otto Frank, the sole survivor of the family retained the area behind the bookcase.
The space was bigger than what I had imagined when reading the book.
To hide in there everyday - I would have want to run out and bask in the sun.
It was heart wrenching imagining how she felt.
The stairs though were steeper than I had thought - I had to walk sideways up.
Otto Frank said, 'Most parents don't really know their children.'
This stuck in my brain after leaving the house.

After that, we headed for the canal cruise.

The sun came up!

Once a year, there's a gathering of the countries best clog makers for a competition.
We were lucky and got to see it.
Man, it's not easy to make!!!
This year they gathered 25 out of 50 makers and apparently this is a dying trade.
Well, I think it's like in other countries that the traditions are hard to keep.
It was heart-warming to see some really young clog makers.

Lunch time!

We headed to Madame Tussauds and we took loads of photos with lots of stars.
The photos are all gone as my colleagues SD card got corrupted.
The photos that I have were the streets from the top floor of the building.

 Royal Palace.

 Dam Square.

This made me miss Kylie.
I think she would have loved the weather and the birds!

 Last stop, The Amsterdam Dungeon.
A little history lesson on the beefeaters, plague, witchery, missing people turning up on ships etc.

Sunday was shopping day!
Kalverstraat as usual - to get clothes for Kylie and Mr Look.
Since it was purely shopping, I only caught photos of the food I ate!

Breakfast - MacDonald's Egg with Bacon McMuffin!

There was a long queue outside this shop which I never noticed before.
Had to try!
The ice-cream was really soft (softer than Mac) and it was scooped from a tub and not from a machine.
My guess is that it's hand-made.
Yummehz!!
Next time, I'll bring people to try and eat it again (an excuse)!

Dinner was settled at a cafe carousel which was at a corner of Weteringcircuit.
Burger, apple juice and poffertjes.
The rest of the week was back in office for training for me.
I have to say that technology is amazing as I managed to FaceTime Kylie with the help of Mr Look everyday.
She wasn't very excited about sitting in front of the iPad to see Mommy though.
